I am an Attorney Manager with the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office and have been a criminal defense attorney for 15 years. Early in my career I worked directly in the Problem Solving Courts. Before law school I worked in the field of behavioral health, so the benefits of a therapeutic approach to the issues and behaviors that bring our clients into the criminal justice system were immediately apparent. The balance between participating in a team approach and ensuring a client’s due process rights are protected is a rewarding challenge for a criminal defense attorney. As an Attorney Manager I work with the Deputy Public Defenders who represent participants in all of the Problem Solving Courts in Maricopa County, including Drug Court, DUI Court, JTOP, Veteran’s Court, DV Court and Mental Health Court.
I got involved with the AADCP Problem Solving Court Conference Planning Committee in 2011 and then after 3 years as Vice President I became President of the Board in April 2018. The best part of being an active member of AADCP is working closely with professionals from different disciplines. AADCP is a valuable association that brings various disciplines together to allow for open dialogue and training on evidenced based practices as well as issues unique to the various courts and jurisdictions.
